Students reflect on their elementary experience by creating a photographic story and writing a mini memoir.
-Gather the information I need to learn about a problem.
-Generate ideas to solve a problem.
-Create a product that demonstrates understanding.
Use the attached presentation to instruct students on the process of writing a memoir:
-What is a Memoir?
Students explore and read different memoirs. Students create a definition of a memoir and discuss how it is different from a biography/autobiography.
-Develop Your Story
Students watch the 1st video in the National Geographic Series and then begin to brainstorm and plan out their favorite elementary memory.
-Photographing Your Story
Students watch the 2nd video in the National Geographic Series. Students learn about the four different types of photography: Still Life, action, portrait and landscape. Students explore through play by practicing the different types of photos. They also explore light, reflection, and angle, etc. Then students sketch out their plan for their photo. They describe the setting, objects they will need, and what type of photo they will be taking.
-Editing Your Story
Students watch the 3rd and 4th videos of the National Geographic Series. Students learn how to edit their photos.
- Light
-Contrast: The difference in brightness between light and dark areas of an image.
-Exposure: A measure of the amount of light in which a photograph was taken.
-Color
-Saturation: Saturation makes colors more vivid (less black or white added).
-Temperature: The balance between warm and cool colors.
-Writing Your Story
Students brainstorm, write, and edit their mini memoirs.
-Sharing Your Story
We print out their stories and mini memoirs for everyone to enjoy that last month of school and our 5th grade recognition.
The rubric at the end of this presentation will help students to evaluate their own work.
Students could be partnered up to do the work.
The teacher could choose one set of lessons to complete and not do the project as a whole.
