Summary

Students will create trailers for Readers Award Nominees.

Materials

Technology with which trailers can be created.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will explore character, plot, and theme in order to pull the main elements of interest from a story.
  2. Students will learn to create a trailer that effectively builds anticipation for a book.
  3. Students will follow copyright guidelines in the creation of their trailer.
  4. Students will properly cite all sources used.

Instructional Procedures

1. Teacher will review character, plot, and theme.

2. Teacher will introduce trailer concept by showing book trailers from sources such as publishers.

3. Teacher will group students according to the book they will be working on.

4. Students will create an outline for their trailer. Remind them to include anticipatory components without spoiling the book.

5. Students will transform complete outline into script.

6. Students will record any visual or audio components they will be adding to their trailer and/or search for copyright free images and music to use in their trailer.

7. Students will edit trailers to fit within a given time limit, typically 60-90 seconds.
